Whether you consider yourself an artist or not, you’re sure to have fun trying out the abstract and experimental art styles of modern-day art from Pablo Picasso, one of the most influential artists of the 20th century, to iconic artists that are alive today.  Students will learn about the stories of art periods and movements of the modern day as well as the artists who were involved in those.  Here is a sneak peak of some of those interesting stories we will learn about and art we will create: Discover why a stool with a bicycle tire attached to the seat is in the Museum of Modern art.  Make your own “Fake Art” piece using paint in a mini pendulum you make to imitate the style of Callen Schaub, the artist whose paintings on Fender guitars sell for thousands of dollars.  Learn about the science and engineering discovered behind Jackson Pollock’s drip paintings and have fun making your own drip painting too.

This unique class is designed to foster conversations and connections while students receive instruction in developing fine art skills. It is ideal for students interested in art who wish to improve their skills while also building new friendships and strengthening social bonds. The gentle approach Jennifer uses to encourage social engagement is inspired by her own experiences as a neurodivergent and deeply introverted individual, and she hopes others can benefit from this supportive environment. Being alongside other students who share an interest in creating art and learning new techniques can facilitate the development of friendships with ease.

The theme of the class will be determined in collaboration with Jennifer and the parent of the student interested in this class to ensure the theme will be of high interest to that child. Past themes have included How to Draw Dragons, How to Draw Cityscapes, How to Draw Cats, and Drawing and Painting. Once we’ve decided on a theme, duration for the session, and time to meet, the class will be advertised and held as long as at least two more students enroll.

For more information, to further discuss theme and session length options, or to enroll in this class, contact Jennifer at jenniferrowestudio@gmail.com.
