Drawing and Painting

All new lessons! Fine art techniques including shading, proportions, and texture will be taught through drawing and painting animals, landscapes, and a special section, “Farm Fresh Art,” with a variety of projects from how to make cherries look glossy to drawing produce trucks.  Throughout the class, the artists will at times work from reference photos I select and at other times work from reference photos they choose.  Students will mostly work at their own pace, and some more involved pieces may take several class periods to complete.  A variety of media including graphite, watercolor, acrylic, and pastels will be taught and explored in this class.    For more information, contact Jennifer at jenniferrowestudio@gmail.com.

Character Creator

Take your character design skills to the next level! Students can choose one or more styles—anime, manga, Pokémon, Studio Ghibli, Warrior Cats, or original creations. Each week, they can explore a new character or focus on parts of a character—expressions, poses, markings, or accessories—while building creativity and confidence. Lessons focus on refining proportions, storytelling, and personal style, while leaving room for experimentation and creativity. Returning students and newcomers alike can challenge themselves with advanced techniques and more complex designs.  Students can stick with one style or mix styles over the 12 weeks.

Art Lab: Paint, Prints, and 3D Creations

New Class! If you are looking for something artsy that’s new, very hands-on, messy, and will have a big “wow” factor, this is the class to join!  Students experiment with color, texture, and mixed media using techniques like paint pours, marbling, gel printing, and 3D texture painting (think raised flowers and designs on a canvas). Each week offers a new project, from pop-up cards to rock painting and wearable fabric art, giving every student a chance to explore, invent, and refine their artistic ideas.

Art Exploration

New lessons for spring semester!  Explore a wide variety of fun subjects to draw and paint while learning the fundamentals of fine art techniques.  Shading, texture, line, paint handling, and color mixing will be taught through a variety of subjects including animals, flowers, landscapes, portraits, and more. The artwork will be created using a wide variety of media including graphite, watercolor, tempera, acrylic, and pastels. Holiday themed art lessons will also be part of this semester-long course.  A new art project will be created every week or two.

Young Artists: Color My World

All New Lessons! Discover the joy of drawing and painting with a variety of art materials in this class specifically designed for k-1.  The emphasis will be on exploration and process with very gentle introductions of drawing and painting techniques for this age range.  In addition to projects with color mixing explorations, students will also learn about shape, line, and texture through various fun art projects.  A variety of art media will be used including watercolor, tempera, and oil pastels.

Students will learn key techniques such as slab, coil, and pinch construction while exploring both functional and sculptural forms.
